The Coordinator for Social Studies shall be directly responsible to the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction and the Superintendent of Schools.  The Coordinator for Social Studies must have a strong understanding of best practices in teaching and learning. The Coordinator for Social Studies will supervise the social studies department, assist in assessing staffing needs,  oversee the K-12 social studies curriculum, coordinating recruiting, hiring and supporting of new staff.

SPECIFIC SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of New York State K-12 standards and assessments; 
  • Excellent written, verbal and organizational skills;
  • Skilled with data analysis and informed decision-making;
  • Ability to gain the rapport and confidence of all segments of the school community;
  • Designs, schedules and coordinates professional development related to Social Studies Instruction (K-12);
  • Evaluates and analyzes student achievement data for department placement and instructional program;
  • Performs classroom observations, provides feedback for instructional improvement;

Leads the social studies department in establishing goals.

Job Qualifications

New York State Certification:  Social Studies, and SDA/SDL

Minimum of five years as a social studies teacher or other administrative experience.
