Job Description

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: 

This position is responsible for assisting in the administration and supervision of the transportation and registration departments. The assistant supervisor for transportation will supervise and direct the safe operation of the transportation activity. The assistant supervisor for transportation will oversee the district registration process for all new students and assistant administration related to residency concerns. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with bus dispatcher and transportation providers in determining bus stops, assist in preparing bus routes and time schedules, and adjust as needed.  
• Investigate accidents, handle concerns, ensure vehicles are safe, and maintain compliance with state laws and regulations.  
• Maintains and investigates accident reports. 
• Assists in supervising the preparation of reports, as required by the New York State Department of Education, Department of Motor Vehicles, Department of Transportation, and the School District. 
• Responsible for managing the student registration process, including processing applications, verifying documents like proof of residence and immunization records, and maintaining the accuracy of student records. 
• Liaison with families, collaborating with other departments, and preparing enrollment reports.  
• Other tasks as determined by the Assistant Superintendent for Business & Operations and/or Superintendent of Schools.

Job Qualifications

Qualifications: A valid NY State Driver's License is mandatory, potentially a Class B with passenger endorsement / Good

Knowledge of NY State Vehicle and Traffic Law, school transportation regulations. 

As a provisional appointment, candidate must sign up and take the Assistant Supervisor of Transportation exam that is offered by

Nassau County Civil Service. Must be a resident of Nassau County.
